Yep! It took Jan Fabre 1.4 million jewel beetle wings to decorate the ceiling and chandelier in the great hall of mirrors (Amy). At first glance you may not even notice that the ceiling is made up of a copious amount of beetle wings. Some that have visited the palace guess the ceiling to be made of rocks, gems or even painted shells (“Royal Palace Ceiling Comprised of Over a Million Jewel Beetles”). To much of their surprise they are usually shocked when they are told that the textile-like patterns are actually wings from the jewel beetle.
